The Advanced Process of Copper Cable Recycling Using a Copper Granulator Machine

Copper wire recycling has rapidly evolved worldwide in recent years, but traditional methods often result in copper wires being recycled as scrap copper, requiring further processing like smelting and electrolysis to become usable raw copper.

Copper granulator machines present an advanced solution, originating in industrialized countries like the USA in the 1980s. These machines are designed to crush and separate copper from plastic in scrap copper wires. The separated copper, resembling grains of rice, is hence termed “copper granules.”

Wire Shredding: Utilize wire shredders or crushers to cut intact wires into uniformly sized granules. In dry-type copper granulator machines, rotating blades on the crusher shaft interact with fixed blades on the casing, shearing the wires. Granules must meet size specifications to enter the airflow separator.
Granule Screening: Transport crushed granules to screening devices. Common screening methods include hydraulic and pneumatic sieving, with some employing electrostatic separation for plastic residue after dry-type copper granulation.
Airflow Separation: Employ airflow separators in dry-type copper granulator machines to sift through granules. With a fan at the bottom, lighter plastic particles are blown upward, while denser copper granules move towards the copper outlet due to vibration.
Vibration Screening: Install vibrating screens at the copper and plastic outlets to further sieve processed materials for impurities like brass-containing plugs found in old cables. This step ensures that inadequately pure materials are reprocessed or sent to subsequent processing equipment.
Electrostatic Separation (Optional): If dealing with substantial material volumes, consider integrating an electrostatic separator post copper granulation to extract any copper dust (approximately 2%) mixed with plastic granules.
Pre-Shredding for Efficiency: For bulky wire bundles that pose challenges for manual sorting into copper granulator machines, consider adding a wire shredder before the copper granulator. Pre-shredding large wire masses into 10cm segments enhances the machine’s efficiency by preventing blockages and streamlining the recycling process.
Enhancing copper wire recycling efficiency through copper granulator machines streamlines operations, improves resource utilization, and aligns with sustainable development practices in the evolving landscape of global waste management.
